About

The British Columbia 2022 expedition was a nine day sea kayaking trip that took place in early August 2022. The trip included paddling and primitive camping along the eastern coast of Vancouver Island and the western coast of British Columbia, Canada. The team of eight, comprised of Georgia Tech ORGT sea kayaking instructors and staff, traveled primarily by kayak and camped at multiple locations along the route. They also hiked to explore areas near campsites when possible.

The total paddling distance was around 130 miles at an average pace of 3 mph with fully loaded kayaks. Average temperatures were 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F). The expedition provided leadership opportunities for ORGT staff and helped foster collaboration through months of planning and preparation.

Team

We selected experienced ORGT sea kayaking instructors and staff capable of handling the route's potential weather and tidal currents. Extensive training and preparation were required.
